Nutrition-Genetics and Environmental Risk Exposure
The Nutrition-Genetics and Exposure to Environmental Risks (NGERE) unit focuses its research activity on the trajectories of normal and pathological aging, particularly in relation to the one-carbon metabolism, the genetics of obesity, cancers and the chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). We are developing preclinical studies on innovative treatments for rare diseases, steatohepatitis and chronic inflammatory bowel diseases.
The research unit Nutrition-Genetics and Exposure to Environmental Risks (U1256 NGERE) is directed by Professor David MEYRE (deputy directors, Dr David COELHO and Professor Laurent PEYRIN-BIROULET) and includes 2 teams:
- Team 1: “The metabolism of monocarbons and epigenomics of the developmental origins of hereditary and complex diseases”, led by Prof. Rosa-Maria GUEANT-RODRIGUEZ.
- Team 2: “Environment, multi-omic integrative biology and precision medicine of obesity, inflammatory bowel diseases and cancers” led by Prof. David MEYRE.
The scientific project is based on the strong involvement of the unit in the local, national and international environment, relying on the FHU ARRIMAGE and CURE, the RHU I-DEAL and the IHU Infiny.
Internationally, the unit co-pilots 3 European projects related to nutrition, genomics and epigenomics. The unit is one of the world leaders in monocarbon metabolism and its implication in rare and complex diseases, the genetics of obesity and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).
The unit is also very involved in clinical research. Prof Laurent PEYRIN-BIROULET has strongly developed high-level clinical research in the field of IBD, while continuing experimental research work on these diseases with in particular the IHU Infiny and the RHU I-DEAL.
